Research Experience

Well Living Lab: Helped finalize build out of living lab facility and implementation of first research project, ALTCO. Manage sensors and building systems, and lead in SOP development for sensor calibration and comparison studies. Built out air quality, temperature, lighting, and other sensor systems. Perform data analysis on environmental data sets. Lead and support human subject research investigations.

Isolation Ward Engineering Design and Evaluation: Designed and demonstrated the feasibility of establishing a temporary isolation ward at a functioning hospital to house a surge of patients during a pandemic of an airborne disease (2014-present).

Indoor Air Quality Analysis: Analyzed the seasonal variability of indoor air pollution in fifteen Colorado homes and the relationship between air pollution, inhabitant activities, and building characteristics (2014-present).

Bioaerosols and Microbiomes: (1) Measured the seasonal variability of microbial communities in fifteen Colorado homes. (2) Assessed the impact of flooding on indoor microbial communities after home remediation. (3) Compared ambient airborne microbial community structure in urban and rural communities of Colorado (2013-present).

Long-Term Ambient Particulate Matter Monitoring and Data Analysis: Conducted a three-year measurement campaign at four monitoring sites to understand spatiotemporal variability and the impact of meteorological conditions on coarse and fine particulate matter in urban (Denver) and rural (Greeley) communities in Colorado (2009-2013).

Particulate Matter Composition and Source Apportionment: Collected filter samples for a year to assess particulate matter composition, including: elemental carbon, organic carbon, water-soluble organic carbon, elements, endotoxin, bacterial communities, UV-vis absorbance, and fluorescence. Statistical models were used to identify sources using elemental concentrations and bacteria community data (2009-2013).

UV-C Disinfection Device Design: Evaluated the performance of a small UV-C disinfection device using three light sources (mercury, xenon excimer, and LED; 2007-2008).
